The Atlanta Electricians at Pat Murphy Electric Explain the Electrical Service Panel Basics

The electrical service panel helps to control all of the electricity entering your home, explains Pat Murphy Electric.

2014-04-15
ATLANTA, GA, April 15, 2014 (Press-News.org) The commercial electricians at Pat Murphy Electric believe that a basic understanding of the electrical components in your home can help you to be safer. One of the main components in every home is the electrical service panel, which people sometimes know as the fuse box or circuit breaker.

The electrical service panel enables you to quickly and easily turn off the electricity to various parts of your home. It also breaks up the electrical current entering your home so that it can more easily be distributed to those various parts of the home. Depending on the size of your home, your panel may have somewhere around 20 to 30 circuit breakers, each controlling a room or region of your home.

You typically will not have to do much with your electrical service panel over the course of owning your home unless a power surge or other abnormal electrical event occurs to cause your circuit breaker to disable itself. If that occurs, you simply need to open the panel and switch the breaker back to "on."

If you have one of Pat Murphy Electric's residential electrical contractors perform an installation or do electrical work on your home, they will turn off some of your circuit breakers before they begin working. This allows them to safely work with the electrical wiring without having to worry about the danger of electrocution or electrical sparks.

It is helpful for homeowners and electricians in Atlanta alike to have each circuit on the breaker clearly labeled with the area of your home it affects. This makes it easier to turn off the correct breaker the first time and sometimes can help you to find a disabled breaker.

During that time, average annual temperatures at the study site rose 3.5 degrees Fahrenheit, and winter precipitation increased as well. "You see it getting warmer, you see it getting wetter ...
