First-Ever Healing Retreat for Workers Bullied on the Job

The Workplace Bullying Institute will hold a May 31 event designed to restore dignity and hope for workers, families, and anyone victimized by abusive work environments.

2014-04-19
BELLINGHAM, WA, April 19, 2014 (Press-News.org) The Workplace Bullying Institute will hold a May 31 event designed to restore dignity and hope for workers, families, and anyone victimized by abusive work environments.

On May 31 in Bellingham, WA, the Workplace Bullying Institute (WBI) hosts the inaugural Workplace Bullying Retreat. The retreat is facilitated by WBI founders, Drs. Ruth and Gary Namie. Attendees will learn to better recognize workplace bullying in its earliest stages, its impact on individuals' health, and solutions when employers do nothing to stop it.

"Bullying is perplexing, leaving targeted workers with lingering questions such as 'Why me?'," said Dr. Gary Namie. "The retreat is designed to answer those questions so the person can move on with her or his life after bullying."

The workshop differs from a strictly educational event. The retreat is designed to create a validating, encouraging, emotionally positive, healing, and supportive, safe harbor for attendees who have endured emotional abuse.

"No one else has talked with over 10,000 bullied targets like we have," remarked Dr. Ruth Namie. "We're proud to create this first-ever, in-person experience for targets to work with us after 17 years of advocacy on behalf of targets."

Family members are also encouraged to attend in order to learn how to best help their loved one move on toward an abuse-free working life. Take-home materials for participants include the Namie's book The Bully at Work and the Help for Bullied Targets DVD.

More retreats are scheduled in 2014. Visit http://www.workplacebullying.org/retreat/ for details.

WBI is the first and only U.S. organization dedicated to the eradication of workplace bullying that combines help for individuals, research, books, public education, training for professionals-unions-employers, legislative advocacy, and consulting solutions for organizations.
