HOUSTON, TX, April 28, 2014 (Press-News.org) Hispanics in Philanthropy (HIP) recently recognized Houston attorney Benny Agosto Jr. for his exceptional civic engagement in the Hispanic community.
Mr. Agosto is a Partner at the Houston law firm of Abraham, Watkins, Nichols, Sorrels, Agosto & Friend. He was recently profiled in Hispanic Executive Magazine as part of the inaugural cohort of HIPGivers, an honor given to individuals who have invested significantly in making a difference for Latino communities. Only 30 people around the country have received the HIPGiver distinction.
Throughout his career, Mr. Agosto has dedicated himself to empowering emerging Hispanic leaders. The editors of Hispanic Executive Magazine noted Mr. Agosto's efforts in establishing the Mexican American Bar Association of Texas Foundation, which has raised more than $100,000 in scholarships for Hispanic law students within the state.
"We need to develop the opportunities for Hispanics trying to go to college as well as for those who are not even dreaming about it," Mr. Agosto said.
As a former national President of the Hispanic National Bar Association, Mr. Agosto brought many important issues impacting Latino communities to the forefront of national policy debates. He also co-founded the Hispanic National Bar Association's Legal Education Fund, which gives 100 percent of its funds to provide minority scholarships.
"If we are really going to be philanthropists, we have to lead with our time, our talent and our money," Mr. Agosto said. "We have to display dedication to our cause, professionalism in our work and generosity in our giving."
