WANdisco Keeps Phoenix Technologies in the Forefront

Core System Software Development Enhanced by Eliminating Downtime and Dramatically Increasing Productivity for Hundreds of Developers Across the US and Asia

2010-11-19
SAN RAMON, CA, November 19, 2010 (Press-News.org) WANdisco, the makers of Enterprise Subversion with the most active core developers from the project on staff, has enabled PC pioneers Phoenix Technologies to step up their CSS development, by implementing Subversion MultiSite servers in Taiwan and California to ensure round-the-clock development and elimination of downtime.

With uncompromised functionality and immediate access to the latest changes across two major global regions, Phoenix Technologies has reduced build cycles by more than 60 percent and eliminated problems associated with unreliable network performance and outages resulting in hours of development time being lost on a daily basis.

Prior to implementing Subversion MultiSite, Phoenix Technologies' 250 developers in Asia relied on regular checkouts exceeding 1GB from their US Subversion server. Because of time zone differences, network outages often meant that developers in Asia would lose up to a whole day if their work depended on the latest source code changes from the US.

Since deployment of WANdisco's class leading MultiSite product in Taipei (also accessed by development teams in Korea and Japan) and Milpitas, California (accessed by developers in Portland Oregon and Seattle, Washington), 300 developers across East Asia and North America now have access to the latest changes from everywhere immediately and simultaneously as if they were all working together at one location.

Dan Austin, Head of IT, Phoenix Technologies, said: "Before Subversion MultiSite, it wasn't uncommon for our entire development team in Asia to lose one or two days per month due to network outages and performance problems that prevented them from accessing the latest changes from the US. Now, WANdisco gives us dramatically improved reliability and performance, and keeps all of our locations continuously in sync. We're seeing serious time and cost savings in the development process."

David Richards, CEO and President of WANdisco, said: "With Subversion MultiSite, servers at every location are fully readable and writeable and continuously in sync, which means the downtime and performance problems Phoenix experienced in the past have been eliminated. We are delighted that WANdisco has helped this great technological leader of the PC age stay at the forefront of their sector. The availability of Subversion MultiSite 4.0 - with major new enterprise capabilities, means that there are now even more benefits associated with this outstanding product."

WANdisco Subversion MultiSite 4.0 includes the following new features:
SSL support to encrypt all network traffic between development sites.
High volume parallel transaction processing on large servers hosting multiple Subversion repositories.
A silent installer that automates deployment across multiple development sites for faster implementation.
Complete LDAP integration for distributed implementations.
RESTful API to allow external monitoring systems and scripts to query Subversion MultiSite's administration console, modify its configuration and invoke operations.

Enterprise-Class Subversion Support Services
WANdisco's Subversion support services are backed by a dedicated team of core Subversion development, QA and support professionals based at the company's offices in the US and the UK. As a result, all of WANdisco's Subversion support customers have access to secure, high quality live support and immediate fixes on a 24-by-7 basis regardless of where they're located. This is critical when problems arise and it's the reason so many organizations that want the same level of support available with commercial enterprise software switch to WANdisco. The team is led by Hyrum Wright, WANdisco's Director of Open Source. Hyrum has also been the release manager for the Subversion project since early 2008.

Support contracts include:
24-by-7 Online, Phone and Email Support.
Guaranteed response times.
Global coverage from the United States and Europe.
Automated delivery of fixes and upgrades.
Technical Account Managers who act as a single point of contact for critical issues.
Security solutions that deliver automated access control and audit reporting.
