MIAMI, FL, November 25, 2010 (Press-News.org) IOS Health Systems has been chosen by the eHealthConnecticut Regional Extension Center as an EHR Vendor providing their web-based Electronic Health Records (EHR) System Medios EHR. Medios will be available to Connecticut's qualified health care providers enabling them the use of an Electronic Health Record system in order to enhance health care quality, safety, and efficiency. In July of 2010, eHealthConnecticut issued a Request for Information and collected information from over forty EHR vendors. eHealthConnecticut reviewed these proposals and has selected IOS Health Systems as a vendor that met qualifications set by eHealthConnecticut for its providers. http://www.ehealthconnecticut.org/REC/EHRVendorInformation.aspx
Medios version 4.5, has been inspected by the Certification Commission for Health Information Technology (CCHIT) and is Preliminary ARRA 2011 certified meeting standards supporting the proposed 2011-2012 Meaningful Use Objectives for Eligible Providers under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA). Medios 4.5 was certified on November 23rd, 2009. http://www.cchit.org/products/2011/arraeligibleprovider/1484
The Preliminary ARRA certification program, operated by the Certification Commission for Health Information Technology (CCHIT ), inspected EHR technology against government criteria proposed prior to the publication of the Final Rule Health Information Technology: Initial Set of Standards, Implementation Specifications, and Certification Criteria for Electronic Health Record Technology on July 28, 2010. The program was designed to demonstrate that a vendor's product would be well prepared to be certified once the Secretary of Health and Human Services (HHS) approved criteria and the Office of the National Coordinator (ONC) authorized testing and certification bodies. Preliminary ARRA certification does not qualify a product as "certified EHR technology" for the purpose of meeting the requirements for incentive funding under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA). CCHIT is an ONC Authorized Testing and Certification Body (ONC-ATCB) and has begun to retest EHRs according to the final criteria approved by the Secretary of HHS.
Health care providers seeking information and guidance regarding the meaningful use of EHRs in the state of Connecticut may turn to eHealthConnecticut, one of 62 Regional Extension Centers around the country designated to offer health care providers a local resource for technical assistance, on best practices to support and accelerate health care provider efforts to become meaningful users of EHR. eHealthConnecticut is working collaboratively with the Connecticut Departments of Public Health and Social Services to build a comprehensive, secure and robust health information technology exchange that serves the health care needs of all Connecticut residents.
The eHealthConnecticut Regional Extension Center is here to help Connecticut's providers select, implement, and achieve meaningful use of Electronic Health Record systems in order to enhance health care quality, safety and efficiency. For qualified providers, REC services are subsidized for individual providers by a federal grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology. To be eligible to receive these services, practices must include Priority Primary Care Providers.
Priority Primary Care Providers (PPCPs) are defined as a licensed Doctor of Medicine (MD), Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO), a nurse practitioner (NP), or Physician Assistant (PA) with prescriptive priviledges who provides primary care services in the areas of Family Practice, Internal Medicine, Obstetrics and Gynecology, and Pediatrics.
About Medios
Medios EHR is the easiest to use and implement EHR system on the market today, adapting to the way physician's and their practices work. Since Medios EHR is fully web-based it provides immediate and secure access to critical patient information and physician tools that are not normally accessible via paper; such as drug interactions, clinical decision support, patient education, disease and patient population management. Because Medios is integrated to so many different entities, the physician has a more complete patient record at the point of care allowing for the ability to deliver an accurate assessment and diagnosis. In addition, patients are also given physician controlled access to their medical records and the ability to make payments and schedule appointments via the system's Patient Portal. Medios EHR helps streamline the medical billing process through various tools including medical necessity and E&M calculators.
Medios EHR is also fully integrated with Medios PM - Practice Management system, providing practices with the tools to have full control of the revenue cycle by automating the claims process, reducing claim rejections, and providing total management of the practice from check-in to payment. In addition, Medios EHR includes features not commonly offered by other vendors such as 24/7 service, text messaging, voice recognition, easy to use interface, QuickNote features, Real-time Practice Dashboards and over 30 specialty specific versions and settings.
IOS Health Systems (IOS) is a privately held corporation with company headquarters in Miami, FL. To date, the program had not been adequately evaluated, according to J.E. Brady and colleagues at Columbia University, who recently completed a study regarding this practice. In a study published in the American Journal of Epidemiology, the researchers found that mandatory alcohol testing may have contributed to a significant reduction in alcohol involvement in fatal trucking ...

Congress Revisits Honest Services Fraud
2010-11-25
Since its inception in 1988, a doctrine known as "honest services" fraud has helped prosecutors send hundreds of public officials to jail on corruption charges. The doctrine came about when Congress rewrote mail and wire fraud statutes to specifically include schemes designed to "deprive another of the intangible right of honest services."
Simply stated, the law codifies a public official's duty of providing honest services to taxpayers. It also applies to the duty that corporate executives have to place the interests of company shareholders above their own. Traditionally, ...

Those injured in Michigan car accidents know how difficult it is to deal with insurance companies. For those who have suffered serious injuries, the situation becomes even more complicated. Recent case law has changed the way insurance companies will be able to do business with those who have been injured, meaning that there are potentially millions of unpaid insurance claims throughout the state.
Michigan is a no-fault insurance state. This means that ...
