EMMAUS, PA, December 04, 2010 (Press-News.org) - Health Market Science (HMS), a leading source for healthcare provider data and solutions, and PDX, Inc., a leading provider of integrated technology solutions for the Retail Pharmacy industry, today announced a strategic relationship to provide retail pharmacies with a solution that mitigates the risk of submitting an invalid prescriber identifier or submitting a prescription for a state or federally sanctioned prescriber.
The HMS-PDX relationship leverages the expertise of two market leaders in pharmacy management technology and prescriber data solutions. HMS and PDX will provide advanced point-of-service compliance solutions, integrating the PDX Pharmacy System—and later the Enterprise Pharmacy System—with HMS's Prescriber MasterFile . This master file includes data such as licensure, status, sanctions, and DEA prescriptive authority.
Each pharmacy transaction is reviewed in real-time to determine if the authorizing prescriber's license and credentials are valid and appropriate for the drug being dispensed. The validation solution, known as Prescriber Eligibility , is integrated with the prescription filling process, allowing for transaction review and corrective action without a transmission to an external switch.
"Given the intense regulatory scrutiny at the state and federal level, pharmacies cannot afford to make costly mistakes," said Jeff Farris, president and CEO of PDX. "We had to make our solution as effective as possible during the filling of a prescription, so pharmacy staff could mitigate risk without compromising customer satisfaction. By integrating our systems with the most up-to-date sanctions data available on the market from Health Market Science, we can help our pharmacy customers address the compliance challenges they face."
"We're delighted to continue working with PDX on robust and innovative compliance solutions for many of the leading pharmacy chains," commented Craig Ford, Senior Vice President, Health Market Science. "The programs are progressing very well and our clients clearly see the value in capturing information in the pre-adjudication process to ensure all required prescriber data is current and accurate, avoiding possible audits or perhaps fines. PDX is also playing an active role on our Pharmacy Advisory Board as the market looks to us to help solve their compliance challenges and to prevent fraud, waste, and abuse."
The Health Market Science and PDX relationship expands upon the companies' current agreement to jointly market the HMS Prescriber MasterFile and data cleansing services to PDX Pharmacy System users. In addition, the companies are working together to automate data updates via the PDX Pharmacy System in a centralized prescriber repository. The goal is to have each prescriber record at the pharmacy store level linked to the HMS Prescriber MasterFile in order to automatically receive ongoing updates.
