Yellowfin 5.1 on the market: Drives social and collaborative BI

International Business Intelligence (BI) software vendor, Yellowfin, has announced the general availability of its new release Yellowfin 5.1: Visualize, Socialize & Decide.

2010-12-04
MELBOURNE, AUSTRALIA, December 04, 2010 (Press-News.org) The new release, available from today, builds on Yellowfin's renowned ease-of-use reporting and analytics solution, offering users social media style features to improve information collaboration.

"Yellowfin 5.1 furthers Yellowfin's mandate to make Business Intelligence easy by introducing a raft of new features to improve organization-wide knowledge sharing, providing a crucial bridge between insight and action," said Yellowfin CEO, Glen Rabie.

The release, and its social and collaborative components, received strong endorsement from BI industry veteran, Ian Nicholson.

"When I saw Social BI mentioned in the sales blurb, I thought it sounded like a gimmick," said Nicholson.

"Having seen it, I think it's genius. Yellowfin should patent it quickly before the big players in the BI space jump all over it."

The release includes an interactive discussion forum - Yellowfin Collaboration - within Yellowfin 5.1, which enables users to create and participate in threaded conversations based on selected reports. The forum encourages users from inside and outside an organization to share ideas and information to support better strategic decision-making based on the information generated by reporting and analytics.

"Yellowfin Collaboration gives users the ability to reply to an entire discussion thread or respond to an individual post within that thread," said Rabie.

"Users can include decision widgets for polling to help decide action, tag discussions and link reports into those discussions, as well as set threads to private to restrict user access and protect sensitive information."

Yellowfin 5.1's other new features include YouTube style Java script export in the form of an embeddable widget dubbed Yellowfin Connect. The widget enables users to embed live interactive reports into discussions, on any platform, by simply copying the Java script fragment into the HTML page.

The introduction of date hierarchies allows date components to be added to reports, removing the need for an external date lookup table.

And a new Client Organization Management system provides a structure for managing and editing the details of client organizations.

Yellowfin 5.1 also makes available a new range of exciting data visualization options to help turn data analysis into actionable knowledge. There are six new chart types, including Stacked Area, Proportional Horizontal Bars, Stepped Line, Numeric Display, Week Density and Time Series Bubble charts.

"The enhanced knowledge sharing features within Yellowfin 5.1 will empower decision-makers with better, faster insights; leading to better, faster decision-making," said Rabie.

"Yellowfin 5.1 is making knowledge sharing and collaborative strategic decision-making easy."

Yellowfin is a global Business Intelligence (BI) software vendor headquartered and developed in Melbourne, Australia. BI refers to a broad range of computer software applications and tools used to report, analyze and present data in a range of formats.
