EDMONTON, AB December 09, 2010 (Press-News.org) With Christmas fast approaching everyone's to-do lists seem to be multiplying daily. The question looming over all of our heads: What am I going to do for gifts? With seemingly endless wish lists in hand, we storm the malls with the dream of getting everything that everyone has asked for. But Mike Boldt's latest children's book The Gophers in Farmer Burrows' Field reminds us that it's the unexpected gifts that are usually the best.
On an ordinary farm, Farmer Burrows has his routines turned upside down when a band of unusually active gophers move in. At first they seem like average pests, but he soon discovers they are anything but ordinary. His efforts to get rid of them go horribly and hilariously awry when the gophers turn his eviction techniques into art! Frustrated by his failures, Farmer Burrows jumps at the chance to leave his farm for good, but it doesn't take him long to realize that the only place he wants to be is at home with his gophers and their amazing gifts.
Inspired by his own upbringing in rural Alberta, Mike claims, "I think animals have a great sense of humour," a humour that is very apparent in his cheeky and talented rodent characters. "As a writer and illustrator, I have the best of both worlds. I can write funny stories about the world around us, and I can show my readers what is possible if they want to be creative," says Mike.
Mike Boldt is an accomplished illustrator whose works have appeared in published books, video games, comics, and even toy designs. The Gophers in Farmer Burrows' Field is his first book as both writer and illustrator. The book, already popular in bookstores and schools, has also created the popular Stacktastic contest in which children are invited to submit photos and illustrations of their own gopher-esque stacking art. You can learn more about Mike and his beautiful illustrations by visiting his website http://www.boldtmanstudios.com or by viewing his media kit at http://www.scribd.com/doc/44782393/Mike-Boldt-Media-Kit
