2010-12-15
PARIS, FRANCE, December 15, 2010 (Press-News.org) An exhibition at the Chateau de Versailles in Paris - entitled Sciences and the Curiosities of the Court of Versailles - may show visitors a different side to the French ruling elite.

The show is available for guests at Paris hotels to view until February 27th 2011 and brings together a variety of plans and instruments by the great scientists who shared their ideas with royal figures.

According to the organisers, the honour of presenting a theory to the king was equivalent to winning a Nobel prize and meant a great deal to scientists at the time.

As a result, all manner of physicians, physicists and philosophers would frequent the court, with several of the French monarchs such as Louis XIV, Louis XV and Louis XVI placing plenty of importance in culture and the sciences.

"This exhibition reveals a new, unexpected face of Versailles as a place of scientific inquiry in its most various forms: the Hall of Mirrors electricity experiment, Marley Machine on the banks of the Seine [and] burning mirror solar power demonstration."

Admission to the Chateau and all of the exhibitions available costs EUR15 (GBP12.55), although the venue offers a variety of special offers if people want to see other attractions as well.

The complex is open every day except Monday, with visitors able to enter between 09:00 and 17:30 local time.

For more information on this event, visit the Chateau de Versailles website or contact the venue on +33 01 30 83 78 00.
