Two Reasons Why Made In America Investment Casting Is Back!

Made in America is back in a big way. For decades, the great American giveaway became the Investment Casting exodus of jobs from America to Europe and Asia.

WILD ROSE, WI, December 15, 2010 (Press-News.org) Made in America is back in a big way. For decades, the great American giveaway became the Investment Casting exodus of jobs from America to Europe and Asia.

Economists, talking heads and armchair watchdogs go back only ten years to count almost 50,000 American manufacturing businesses that closed. Thousands of precision investment casting businesses, basic to the economy shut down. Soon after, the hammer dropped onto one of the biggest recessions in American history as the Dot Com meltdown tipped the scales. Countries that did not have the same American job or labor manufacturing requirements received millions and millions of American jobs during the coming years.

The great attraction for buying overseas investment castings at the time was COST. Lowered cost was the primary competitive factor that most American buyers quoted as the number one reason for going against a nationalized trend calling to buy American. They couldn't, because they couldn't remain competitive. Seemingly overnight, small overseas manufacturers developed massive business. Some American manufacturers, who could survive, resold foreign goods of the same types that they once made in their own shops.

Precision investment casting businesses that could survive had to react fast or they already making cuts to stay in business. The remaining American precision investment casting companies still found that the unchanged business climate forced internal changes. Businesses kept running by trimming fat. Unknown to employees, many smaller business owners gave up pay for years, while employees complained of lost profit sharing benefits, wage decreases and no more yearly bonuses. Employees still had something valuable - Carefully Secured Jobs.

Businesses change. It is important to adapt to those changes. However, millions and millions of exported American manufacturing jobs helped to turn the American economy base from a desired manufacturing economy to an overwhelming service economy. Both are needed, especially since external influences beyond internal control create hazards. Countries relying primarily as a service economy have exposed themselves to the countries who control manufacture of the basic goods required to operate those service operations.

Going back ten years was only a small part of the losses American armchair watchdogs lived. Few talking heads or government economists remembered the pain of a lost steel industry, lost investment castings foundries or of diminishing cottage businesses that kept the small business man alive.

Cost was definitely a factor for customers who bought overseas, but QUALITY became a major problem. Overseas foundries were unaccustomed to American expectations. Customers received investment castings with high porosity that the overseas foundries delivered as quality work.

Porosity is the most common complaint in precision investment casting, but a quality business such as Shelmet Castings, Inc of Wild Rose, WI ( http://www.shelmetcastings.com ) knows how to control porosity.

But why has the tide has turned? Much of it is caused by the government policies that helped cause the problem in the first place. Outrageous deficit spending has watered down the money supply so much that even payment on the interest is difficult to make.

COST: At home in America, that means buying foreign goods just went up in price, and to foreigners, buying American precision investment castings has become a great bargain.

QUALITY: American manufacturers such as Shelmet Castings, Inc ( http://www.shelmetcastings.com ) have exhibited superior quality over the past 51 years in business. Shelmet Castings, Inc is ISO 9001:2008 Quality Certified.
