LateRooms.com - Barcelona to Present BAM Festival

The BAM Festival will include music from Goldfrapp, OK Go and El Guincho.

2010-09-01
BARCELONA, SPAIN, September 01, 2010 (Press-News.org) A performance from Goldfrapp is set to be one of the highlights of this year's Barcelona Accio Musical (BAM) Festival.

The British electronic pop duo are due to play a free open-air concert at the city's Parc de Forum as part of this lively event, which runs from September 23rd to 25th.

Other acts set to grace stages around Barcelona during BAM include Belle & Sebastian, Anti-Pop Consortium, El Guincho, Maika Makovski, OK Go and Hindi Zahra.

Now in its 18th year, the festival forms an important part of La Merce - an annual carnival held in honour of the patron saint of Barcelona.

This major street party takes place in the Catalan capital around the feast day of September 24th and is hugely popular with both the locals and people staying in the cheap hotels Barcelona has to offer.

La Merce traditionally includes a spectacular Correfoc, or fire run, in which fireworks are set off amid a large crowd of spectators.

Usually taking place at dusk along Via Laietana, the Correfoc sees people dress in costume as devils and run up the street with bangers, sparklers and handheld fireworks.

Although not ideal for those with a nervous disposition, this event can be exciting way to experience Barcelona's traditional carnival.

LateRooms.com recommends a variety of accommodation in Barcelona, such as the Hotel Barbara Barcelona.

European Court Decision Advances Fathers' Rights

2010-09-01
A recent decision by the German Constitutional Court provides that men who father children out of wedlock need not obtain the mother's consent to seek legal custody. The court heeded a 2009 European Court of Human Rights ruling that German family law was inconsistent with a European directive to respect and sustain family life, and it also ran afoul of anti-discrimination laws. The interests of a German child in having a relationship with an unmarried father can no longer be subsumed by the mother's parental rights. Some German conservatives decried the judgment, arguing ...
