AsiaRooms.com - Runners Set for 2011 Dubai Marathon

The event is due to take place in the emirate on January 21st.

2010-12-16
DUBAI, UAE, December 16, 2010 (Press-News.org) World-class athletes and casual runners alike will be heading to the UAE next month for the 2011 Dubai Marathon.

The event has traditionally attracted a strong field, with legendary distance runner Haile Gebrselassie the first to cross the line at the 2010 edition, which was watched by a global audience of more than 200 million people.

Full details of the field for the forthcoming race - due to take place on Friday January 21st - have yet to be announced, but the organisers have confirmed up-and-coming Kenyan star Eliud Kiptanui will be battling it out for the $250,000 (GBP158,000) first prize in Dubai.

While the vast majority of people staying in Dubai hotels for the occasion will not get anywhere near matching the speed of Kiptanui, they are still free to tackle the full marathon, the 10km road race or the 3km fun run.

Registration for these events will cost overseas residents $100, $50 and $15 respectively and all prospective participants must get their entries in by New Year's Eve at the latest.

The 42km contest gets underway at 07:00 local time in front of the American University in Dubai, with the 10km challenge starting 15 minutes later from the same location. Meanwhile, the fun run is scheduled to set off at 11:00.

For more information on this event, visit the Dubai Marathon website.
