Quinn-direct's Tips for Young Drivers' Car Insurance and Choosing Your First Car

Great tips from Quinn-direct Insurance on how to go about choosing your first car.

2010-12-19
CAVAN, IRELAND, December 19, 2010 (Press-News.org) Young drivers' car insurance is something that is a painful subject for many new or inexperienced road users.

With a few commonsense steps, it may be possible to reduce those premiums to a more manageable level, says car insurance specialist Quinn-direct. They have issued a few tips that young drivers may find helpful, from choosing a new car to getting young drivers' car insurance:

- Avoid powerful or customised vehicles. Insurers typically are uneasy when young or inexperienced motorists drive sports cars, high-performance vehicles or those that have been heavily customised. All these suggest higher risk and a result of that may be higher premiums.

- Some insurers equate high-mileage estimates and younger drivers with significantly increased risk.

- Some insurers welcome evidence that your tuition has been conducted through a professional and highly reputable driving school. Some, such as Quinn-direct, may offer discounts if you have undergone 25 lessons with a Driving Instructor Registered (DIR) instructor.

- Avoid motoring convictions. These are normally very bad news for any insurance company, particularly so if you are a young driver.

- Check out student opportunities. Some insurers such as Quinn-direct offer discounts to students.

- If you have been driving on somebody else's insurance policy, remember that some insurers may be willing to take that experience into account if you are looking for young drivers' car insurance of your own.

- Think about insurers. Not all motor vehicle insurance providers necessarily welcome young drivers. By contrast, other insurers may specialise in young drivers' car insurance. Quinn-direct is an example of one such company that offers special solutions for young or inexperienced drivers.

- Keep your policy requirements simple. If you are a younger driver and are trying to include other younger drivers on your policy, you may find that your costs soar. Trying to insure other drivers on your policy that have motoring convictions may prove to be difficult and/or equally expensive.

- Think about your no claims bonus. Firstly, avoiding minor and marginal claims may be a good idea in terms of protecting your no claims bonus (subject to the terms of your policy). Secondly, some car insurance companies may allow you to earn a no claims bonus even if you do not yet have your full licence - providing the cover is in your own name. That could be very useful for the future.

Following these simple steps may help you to find young drivers' car insurance that offers you both good cover and a cost-effective solution.
