SALISBURY, ENGLAND, December 19, 2010 (Press-News.org) Reports of staff waking before dawn, walking miles in the snow, digging customer's cars out and cancelling their days off to ensure the branches were able to operate, are just a few of the many goodwill stories sent in to head office. .
A number of dedicated members of staff left home before 7am to allow enough time to walk to work and open doors for customers at 7:30 - more often than not walking for a number of miles through more than six inches of snow. Des Jenkinson, from the Malton branch, got up at 6am each day and spent 45 minutes digging out his car just to make it in; Des is over 60 years old.
Not only did members of staff want to make sure that the branches were ready and able to serve customers, they also worked to ensure that the branches were safe for customers. Staff at the Hull branch spent a great deal of time out in the freezing temperatures digging cars out in the yard, clearing snow and ice, and gritting the car park to guarantee the safety of their customers. That alone is impressive, but the fact that they all had walked up to an hour and 15 minutes to get to work, three days in a row, shows a true work ethic and commitment to their customers.
Walking to and from work is impressive enough in these freezing temperatures, but Allan White, the branch manager at Glenrothes went one step further. After completing the two mile round trip one evening back to his home, he received a desperate call from a customer who urgently needed some goods - without thinking twice; Allan headed straight back outside and walked back to the branch to help the customer out.
So, customers really can rest assured that Plumb and Parts Center will always do whatever it takes to support their customers and make sure they can access everything they need to.

SGS Assists Companies Wishing to Audit Against the New Global Social Compliance Programme
2010-12-19
Until now, many companies have had to submit to repeated auditing around core ILO conventions, with slight variations in content or audit methodology. This has resulted in a significant duplication of effort for many producers, who have as a result had less time to address audit outcomes. For many producers there has been no way to address this situation, as customers have generally not been prepared to accept audits conducted according to conventions other than their own.
In a joint effort to improve the situation, major retailers met in 2007 to discuss a Unified Code ...
