SCHENZEN, CHINA, December 31, 2010 (Press-News.org) Did you know that corsets started becoming a staple for women around the sixteenth century? Yeah, I thought it was early than that too. However, up until that time women simply wrapped themselves up with either torn bed linens, or cloth rags. Actually the only reasons women started wearing corsets in the first place was because, they found them to be flattering for their bust lines, while accentuating boob cleavage. It wasn't until the Victorian era, did corsets wedding dresses start serving a bigger purpose. Specially made corsets, which were made by a skilled corsetier or corsetiere, were worn to help mold a woman's body into the notable hourglass, figurative shape of the Victorians.

Another known fact about corsets is that men were once wearers of corsets too. Matter of fact, men have worn corsets through out history, for a various number of reasons. The most common reason of course, was for medical purposes. Yes, men were led to believe that certain corsets could be made, to aid in providing extra needed support, for various physical malformations, and to help reduce any physical pain from overworked or weak muscles. Moreover, corsets used this way gave birth to the modern day back brace. Back braces are often sported by men and women, who are forced to lift heavy objects for a living. The back brace literally supports the spinal column, by forcing the person to remain straight during the lifting process.

However, despite all these facts about corsets, a corset is definitely defined by it's breasting duties. When a man thinks of a woman's corset, he is not envisioning a strong man pulling a bus or something. No..., he is envisioning a curvaceous woman wearing a bustier lingerie, accented with thigh high stockings. I guess it is because of this stigmata, corsets probably do not make for the ideal wedding dress. Then again, whose to say what is proper wedding attire when the bride and groom are footing the bills?
