LARCHMONT, NY, January 07, 2011 (Press-News.org) On Sunday, January 9th at 2:00 pm, Clarke Auction's First Sale of the New Year will feature 475+ lots drawn from estates in Pelham, East and West Sides, Park Avenue, Forest Hills, Greenwich, Scarsdale, Larchmont and Riverdale.

Antique highlights include antique furniture: two 18th Century Continental commodes, a c.1800 French Provincial fruitwood armoire, twelve 19th C. French Louis XVI style mahogany side chairs with bronze borders and caned seats and backs; a 19th C. Italian cabinet and a ladies' walnut desk, a set of twelve Regency rosewood dining chairs, an English mahogany double shield settee, an American bowfront and inlaid chest and a mahogany stepback chest.

Chandeliers and lighting examples are pairs of Sevres urn-form laps; bronze, gilt bronze, and crystal table lamps, older heavily-carved alabaster lamps, a Murano lamp, a pair of decorated Chinese porcelain lamps, a gilt bronze and glass figural lamp, and an Egyptian motif bronze lamp. Chandeliers include a monumental stained glass and ornate bronze example, a pair of crystal Modernist chandeliers, gilt-bronze chandeliers, and a midcentury modern tiered starlight pendant light.

Fine Art includes a collection of nine oil paintings and a portfolio by the Turkish Avni Arbas with full provenance, 19th French paintings by J.V. Bertin, Gabriel Hippolyte LeBas, and Ferdinand Heilbuth; Italian paintings by Armodio, Alfredo Serri, Giovanni Madonini, and Carlos Ciappa; a 1914 exhibited oil by the African-American Ferdinand Ellington, a color aquatint of the Brooklyn Bridge by T.F. Simon; an older oil of Washington after Stuart, a oil of an evening bridge by Johannes Schiefer, a rare abstract oil by Malcom Edgar Case; Old Masters including a still life attributed to the school of Baldassare de Caro and a classical ink and wash drawing, and other 19th and 20th Century paintings being catalogued at this time. Clarke is also auctioning a signed Ansel Adams silver gelatin photograph, "Fern Spring, Dusk...", estimated $1000-1500, in this auction.

Spectacular Silver such as a pair of Tiffany and Co Sterling candelabra, a pair of Settepass Sterling fluted candelabra, a .950 French Cardellhac Paris tray, a large collection of .800 Continental silver including a sauceboat with eagle handle and a footed centerpiece with putti handles, a collection of .830 Swedish silver, and early French silver flatware are also to be auctioned on January 9th. Of special interest is a possibly Chinese Export silver tray, heavily engraved with bamboo-form handles.

Decorative Arts are strong in this auction with an immense KPM china service, and full and partial porcelain and china services by Minton, Sevres, Wedgwood, and Rosenthal; French hand-painted fish and bird plates; a pair of spectacular 19th C. French gilt bronze and champleve candelabra, and several pairs of bronze, gilt bronze and crystal candelabra,

Exceptional Collections
A Pelham estate provided an exceptional collection of fifty signed antique and decorative miniatures including an early example potraying a French aristocrat signed Belin (Claude Alexandre Belin).
In addition, a large Inuit folk art stone sculpture collection as found in a commercial facility was consigned to Clarke for sale this auction.
