HACKENSACK, NJ, January 09, 2011 (Press-News.org) Aidan O'Connor has joined Pashman Stein as a member and will lead the firm's white collar criminal defense practice.
O'Connor brings 18 years' experience as an Assistant United States Attorney for the District of New Jersey, having previously served in the Criminal Division, the Organized Crime Strike Force and as chief of the Violent Crimes Unit. During his tenure at the Department of Justice, he received the Director's Award for Superior Performance as an Assistant U.S. Attorney for his successful prosecution of a RICO case involving hundreds of millions of dollars in excise tax fraud and organized crime members.
O'Connor has tried more than 20 federal jury trials, argued hundreds of motions, and conducted hundreds of hearings and federal prosecutions involving organized crime, RICO, tax fraud and evasion, securities fraud, health care fraud, money laundering, theft of trade secrets, embezzlement, commercial and insurance fraud, government program fraud, union corruption, alien smuggling, homicide, bank robbery, narcotics and firearms trafficking, civil rights violations, large stolen property rings, computer crimes, extortion, and kidnapping.
As head of Pashman Stein's white collar criminal defense practice, O'Connor will continue to represent both corporate and private clients in complex civil litigation and white collar criminal defense matters in federal and state courts. O'Connor's practice also includes conducting internal investigations and developing corporate compliance programs for public and private companies. As has been his practice, by coordinating with clients and conferring with prosecuting authorities to resolve matters before formal charges are filed, O'Connor works toward achieving non-public resolutions and avoiding criminal prosecution on behalf of clients.
After leaving the United States Attorney's Office O'Connor entered private practice as a partner at Stern & Kilcullen, where he was a member of the firm's litigation department concentrating on complex civil litigation, securities regulatory enforcement, criminal defense and internal investigations, including securities, tax, bank and health care fraud matters. Prior to joining the U.S. Attorney's Office in 1990, he was a litigation associate with Thacher Proffit & Wood in New York City.
O'Connor is admitted to the New York, Washington, D.C. and New Jersey state bars. He received his J.D. from the University of Virginia Law School and a B.A. from Columbia University.
"Aidan's exceptional background in civil RICO and criminal litigation along with his experience with complex fraud investigations will expand our range and further enhance our litigation practice. We look forward to working with him to grow our practice in new and exciting directions," said Michael Stein, Pashman Stein co-founder and head of the firm's litigation practice.

Covering The Costs When Your Bundle of Joy Arrives Overseas
2011-01-09
If you're planning on starting or growing your family and are moving abroad, it's always best to check your insurance policy before you leave. Cultural differences can mean childbirth options differ greatly from country to country, together with the costs involved. Some insurers do not cover maternity costs at all, whilst others restrict options to such a degree, that there is in practice very little cover in case of an emergency, for example.
The different experiences of women around the world is demonstrated most starkly by the World Health Organisation, which has ...

2011-01-09
The real estate market is seeing a spike in home improvements due to a growing number of families looking to renovate their homes. However, the kind of renovation that is being done goes well beyond the average retiling of the bathroom and repainting of the walls. More and more families are, quite literally, extending their homes with an additional screen room, patio enclosure or porch addition.
With the United States Census recording over 600,000 home extensions in the form of a porch, a screen room or a patio enclosure, more homeowners are looking to maximize the ...

Rates are competitive because the underwriting guidelines exclude writing large firms that tend to ...
