Deborah Tellier of Farella Braun + Martel Elected to Board of Directors, Environmental Law Institute

SAN FRANCISCO, CA, January 12, 2011 (Press-News.org) Farella Braun + Martel LLP environmental law partner Deborah K. Tellier, has been appointed to the Board of Directors of the Environmental Law Institute (ELI).

Since 1969, ELI has played a pivotal role in shaping the fields of environmental law, policy, and management, domestically and abroad. An independent, non-profit research and educational organization based in Washington, D.C., the Institute serves the environmental profession in business, government, the private bar, public interest organizations, academia, and the press. The Institute is governed by a board of directors who represent a diverse mix of leaders within the environmental profession and others who support strengthening environmental law and policy.

Tellier counsels business and industry clients on compliance with federal, state and local environmental laws, with an emphasis on hazardous waste and water quality laws and regulations. She represents companies in administrative proceedings and negotiations with federal, state and local environmental enforcing agencies. She also advises clients on conducting and evaluating environmental due diligence investigations in connection with the acquisition, leasing and financing of real property. She counsels domestic and international clients on establishing and monitoring environmental management systems, audits and sustainability programs.

Tellier has served nine terms on the executive committee of the Environmental Law Section of the Bar Association of San Francisco and is the current vice-chair. She is serving as the program's vice-chair for the Waste and Resource Recovery Committee of the American Bar Association's Section of Environment, Energy and Resources. She previously worked as associate general counsel and chief compliance officer for the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation, which advances environmental conservation initiatives and cutting-edge scientific research around the world. Tellier received her J.D. from the University of Oregon (1987) and her B.S. in environmental policy analysis and planning from the University of California, Davis (1982).
