Stevens-Henager Ogden Sponsors "New Year, New You!" Health Fair

Complimentary Screenings, Wellness Tips, and Healthcare Job Information Available to the Community

ODGEN, UT, January 13, 2011 (Press-News.org) Stevens-Henager Ogden is hosting a "New Year, New You!" Health Fair on Friday, January 14 at both the Ogden campus and Layton satellite campus, to promote wellness and disease prevention and to give interested community members an insider's look into the healthcare profession.

"The theme of the fair is all about using the new year to start a 'new you,' which can be making a commitment to personal health or taking the first step to making your career dreams come true. We know many people are using their New Year's resolutions to get in shape, finally earn their GED or college degree, or change their career, and we want to support that," says Vicky Dewsnup, Regional Director at Stevens-Henager College Ogden. "The booths, activities, and screenings will help people learn more about their own personal health and provide touch points in creating a healthier lifestyle, but our hope is that the event will also provide a unique insight into different healthcare professions. There is great demand for bright, enthusiastic professionals in this high-growth industry and Stevens-Henager College Ogden can provide those interested with the skills and education they need to be successful."

The fair is happening in conjunction with nine other events at Stevens-Henager campuses and satellite campuses in Utah (Salt Lake City/Murray, Logan, Provo/Orem) and in Idaho (Boise) and their affiliates in Arizona (CollegeAmerica Flagstaff), California (California College San Diego), Colorado (CollegeAmerica Denver and Fort Collins), and Wyoming (CollegeAmerica Cheyenne).

The health fair will feature informational booths, activities and a variety of complimentary health screenings including:
Ogden
• Life Flight
• Search and Rescue Winter Safety
• Healthy living ideas and activities
• Blood pressure and glucose testing
• Chiropractic Care
• Healthy eating tips
• Smoking cessation information
• Fitness
• Putting green for kids
Layton
• Blood sugar, glucose, blood pressure testing
• Body mass index readings
• Cholesterol screenings
• Health and fitness workshops including: "Hit the Road Running," "What Happens After You Eat it?," "You and Your Feet!"

The event is also an opportunity for people interested in healthcare careers to learn more about the industry and what it takes to earn a healthcare degree. Workshops will be held throughout the day, like the Career Day workshop, "Is a healthcare career for you?" which will explain nursing, surgical technology, and respiratory therapy careers. Interested people will be able to talk to students and staff members, watch demos, and sign up to shadow alumni during the day of the fair. Additionally, "How to get your GED " sessions will be offered.

Many local businesses are participating in the "New Year, New You!" Health Fair through informational booths, demonstrations, and partnerships. Ogden and Layton businesses include: Davis County Hospital, Department of Health, Life Flight from McKay Dee Hospital and the Ogden Regional Hospital.

Attendees will be able to enter a drawing to win a Wii Fit as a way to encourage their healthy living habits.

Stevens-Henager College Ogden offers degree programs as well as evening and online classes for busy students balancing work, family and other obligations. In addition to degree programs in Healthcare, students can also earn degrees in Business Administration, Graphic Arts and Information Technology.
