LOGAN, UT, January 13, 2011 (Press-News.org) Stevens-Henager College Logan is hosting a "New Year, New You!" Health Fair on Friday, January 14, to promote wellness and disease prevention and to give interested community members an insider's look into the healthcare profession.

"The theme of the fair is all about using the new year to start a 'new you,' which can be making a commitment to personal health or taking the first step to making your career dreams come true. We know many people are using their New Year's resolutions to get in shape, finally earn their GED or college degree, or change their career, and we want to support that," says Sharla Lemon, Campus Director at Stevens-Henager College Logan. "The booths, activities, and screenings will help people learn more about their own personal health and provide touch points in creating a healthier lifestyle, but our hope is that the event will also provide a unique insight into different healthcare professions. There is great demand for bright, enthusiastic professionals in this high-growth industry and Stevens-Henager College Logan can provide those interested with the skills and education they need to be successful."
The fair is happening in conjunction with ten other events at Stevens-Henager campuses and satellite campuses in Utah (Salt Lake City/Murray, Layton, Ogden/West Haven, Provo/Orem) and in Idaho (Boise) and their affiliates in Arizona ( CollegeAmerica Flagstaff), California (California College San Diego), Colorado (CollegeAmerica Denver and Fort Collins), and Wyoming (CollegeAmerica Cheyenne).
The health fair will feature informational booths, activities, and a variety of complimentary health screenings including:
• Glucose, cholesterol, and blood pressure testing
• Vision, hearing, sleep apnea screening
• Flu shots (cost: $5) from Cache Valley Community Nursing
• Healthy living ideas and activities
• Visit from McGruff the Crime Dog
• Smoking cessation
• Food and fun for the entire family
The event is also an opportunity for people interested in healthcare careers to learn more about the industry and what it takes to earn a healthcare degree. Workshops will be held throughout the day, like the Career Day workshop, "Is a healthcare career for you?" which will explain different issues in the healthcare industry. Additionally, "How to get your GED " sessions will be offered.
Many local businesses are participating in the "New Year, New You!" Health Fair through informational booths, demonstrations, and partnerships. Logan businesses include: Alpine Orthopedic Specialists, Bear River Health Department, Bridgerland Audiology, Cache County Sherriff Search and Rescue, Cache Valley Community Nursing Service, Cache Valley Oxygen, Cache Valley Specialty Hospital, Hearts and Hands Healthcare, IHC Regional Hospital, Intermountain Healthcare Life Flight, Logan City Fire Department, National Alliance of Mental Illness, Rejuvenations Wellness and Day Spa, and Work Med Clinic.
Attendees will be able to enter a drawing to win a Wii Fit or three month gym membership to The Sports Academy and Racquet Club as a way to encourage their healthy living habits.
Stevens-Henager College offers degree programs as well as evening and online classes for busy students balancing work, family and other obligations. In addition to degree programs in Healthcare, students can also earn degrees in Business Administration, Graphic Arts and Information Technology.
