GIG HARBOR, WA, January 14, 2011 (Press-News.org) Really good, fun educational resources for young children on the move can be difficult to find. But an idea that began as a mom-and- daughter craft project has blossomed into Fat Cat Phonics, one of the most innovative teaching tools on the market.
It started with a simple refrigerator magnet. "My daughter and I were looking for ideas for homemade Christmas presents for her friends when we stumbled across a DIY article on how to make bubble magnets," said Fat Cat Phonics founder and mom, Jennifer Powell.
"We decided to make alphabet magnets for the refrigerator and suddenly an idea took hold that just wouldn't shake loose."
The result is a unique educational resource specially designed for hands-on fun 'inside the box' for active kids.
Products include the 'Let's Get Ready to Read', 'I am Reading' and 'Math is Fun' starter box sets. Also available are a variety of reusable workbooks. These workbooks boast creative hands-on exercises designed to ensure that children learn the basic building blocks so necessary for academic success.
With the help of specialist Jo Ann Trautman, who has worked in education for more than 35 years, Jennifer has developed a brilliant comprehensive learning package which helps every child learn at his or her own pace.
Jo Ann said: "Fat Cat Phonics is an engaging way to provide preschool through primary students the practice needed to take phonics to the automatic level."
Jennifer added: "Our company recognizes that children love to move and they love to learn and we could not think of a better way to blend the two than with colorful chunky (non-magnetic) manipulatives and hundreds of bright engaging worksheets. "
