RALEIGH, NC, January 21, 2011 (Press-News.org) Chain Drug Review, a leading publication covering the chain drug industry, has named the pharmacy management team at Kerr Drug as the collective recipients of this year's Chain Drug Pharmacy Executives of the Year for 2010. The editor's honored the team for positioning Kerr Drug as a model for what community pharmacies nationwide will look like in the future, including offering services such as immunizations, diagnostic testing and medication therapy management.
The five Kerr executives honored are president and chief executive officer Anthony "Tony" Civello, executive vice president of pharmacy and supply chain operations Ralph Petri, vice president of pharmacy and government relations Mark Gregory, Kerr Health president Mike Brown and director of pharmacy procurement and analysis Ted Lingerfeldt.
"We thank the editors at Chain Drug Review for this honor and for recognizing our efforts to make pharmacy-led services an integral part of health care," says Anthony "Tony" Civello, president and CEO of Kerr Drug. "Our pharmacists are able to do what they went to school for, which is patient counseling, chronic disease management and interaction with a physician."
Chain Drug Review cited Kerr Drug's Community Healthcare Center in Chapel Hill as an example of taking the neighborhood pharmacy concept to a completely new level. The center is leading Kerr Drug's transition from a business centered on delivering prescriptions to one focused on providing clinical services that are coordinated with physicians and their practices.
"With the nation's health care system in the midst of dramatic change, there is a tremendous opportunity for community pharmacy to play a greater role in managing patient's well-being as well as controlling the cost of health care," says Gregory. "That's our direction and it's working."
