TV Choice w/c 22 January Casualty Stars Speak Out About Mental Health And Domestic Abuse

Mental health and domestic abuse come under the spotlight in BBC1's medical drama Casualty and two of the show's stars talk to TV Choice about these serious issues.

2011-01-23
LONDON, ENGLAND, January 23, 2011 (Press-News.org) Ruth suffers a mental breakdown when her behaviour grows increasingly bizarre as she begins seeing and hearing imaginary things.

'I like the fact that we're showing a medical practitioner in this situation,' Georgia Taylor, who plays the doctor, tells TV Choice. 'It's also good to show that mental illness doesn't discriminate.'

Meanwhile, nurse Kirsty's husband is becoming more violent towards her.

'I hope that if women who are suffering see the show, and relate to Kirsty in any way, it might spur them to get help,' adds Lucy Gaskell, who plays Kirsty.

Also in this week's TV Choice, Robson Green talks about joining supernatural drama Being Human, while Dakota Blue Richards is among the new cast of teen drama Skins. Jonathan Rhys Meyers is back to play Henry VIII one last time in The Tudors, while Edie Falco returns as Nurse Jackie.
Vanessa Feltz previews her new daytime show, and Gok Wan styles the nation once more in Gok's Clothes Roadshow.

There are also gongs aplenty as we preview the British Comedy Awards, and The National Television Awards.

In the soaps, has Ian left Phil to die after he collapses in EastEnders? John Stape has a mental breakdown in Corrie, and Carl is arrested after a row with Chas in Emmerdale. Mandy has second thoughts about revenge on Tony in Hollyoaks, and in Doctors Karen decides to have an abortion. Summer collapses in Neighbours, while Bianca's feelings for Liam resurface in Home And Away.

There is also a fantastic Sony HD TV and Blu-ray home cinema system to be won in this week's TV Choice competition.

Launched in 1999 TV Choice has become the essential companion to the UK's favourite past-time, with TV listings for all major terrestrial and digital channels. Now the UK's biggest selling consumer magazine, TV Choice sells over 1.3 million copies per week.
