LateRooms.com - Top Surfers to Do Battle in Gold Coast Quiksilver Pro

Entrants will be looking to emulate the success of last year's winner, Taj Burrow.

2011-01-29
GOLD COAST, AUSTRALIA, January 29, 2011 (Press-News.org) The 2011 Quiksilver Pro surfing tournament is a real must-see for watersports fanatics staying in the cheap accommodation Gold Coast has available next month.

Kicking off on February 26th and running until March 9th, the event will see the cream of the Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) World Tour take to the water off the Queensland coast in search of some serious waves.

Gold Coast accommodation guests who head down to the beach for the occasion will get to see the entrants attempt to emulate the success of last year's champion Taj Burrow, the 31-year-old Australian who saw off competition from South Africa's Jordy Smith in the 2010 final.

Speaking after his triumph, Burrow said: "I'm so, so happy right now - it's the best feeling on Earth.

"I didn't feel like I surfed my best in the final [but] I kind of just did what it took to win."

A total prize pot of $425,000 (AU$426,000) is up for grabs in the tournament, so cheap accommodation customers should be in for some high-octane action as the best in the business look to pocket the cash.

The event is part of the Quiksilver Pro Global Series, which has recently been expanded to incorporate a stage at New York, as well as those on the Gold Coast and France.

For more information on this event, visit the ASP website or contact the organisers on (+61) 7 5599 3800.
