CHICAGO, IL, January 30, 2011 (Press-News.org) A healthy smile is important for a healthy lifestyle. A mouth that is not healthy can have cavities, gingivitis, periodontitis (deep gum disease), and bad breath. Regular flossing and brushing not only keep these dental problems at bay, but also help control diabetes and prevent heart disease. So, how can you keep your smile healthy? Read further as Chicago Bucktown Dentist, Dr. Yasser Elseweifi discusses dental hygiene.
"One of the first things that people notice when meeting new people is their teeth. A yellow smile makes a person look unattractive. In fact, it can even cause potential employers to think twice before they hire you. Apart from brushing and flossing, a regular visit to the dentist helps maintain a healthy smile and can have an impact on your overall health,". ," says, Dr. Elseweifi, an experienced dentist with Bucktown Dental Associates, located in Bucktown, Chicago.
"During the dental examination, a dentist evaluates your overall health vis-à-vis oral hygiene, checks for tooth decay, root decay, and gum diseases. He also determines your need for fillings, crowns or dental implants. . The dentist also asks about general health problems, the medications that you take and their effect on your dental health. For example, certain medications like antihistamines, antidepressants, high blood pressure medications, cause dry mouth, thus increasing your chances of tooth decay," he adds.
As earlier said, good dental health prevents bad mouth odor. Brushing your teeth twice a day, flossing your teeth at least once a day, and drinking plenty of water help to tackle problems like bad breath, cavities, gingivitis and periodontitis.
