CAPE CORAL, FL, January 31, 2011
Lee County is doing its part to create a more sustainable future for Southwest Florida residents, while saving money for local tax payers. Cape Coral Solar Electricity Company, Fafco Solar announces the completion of a project that harnesses the power of Florida's sunshine to help operate the new Lee County Public Safety Building. With over 236 roof mounted solar modules and 236 microinverters, this is the largest photovoltaic system at any Southwest FL government facility. The project is funded by the Department of Energy Grant, with no cost to local taxpayers, and is using local management, engineering and labor."The Lee County Public Safety Building Solar Panel project is a great example of federal stimulus dollars putting our highly qualified local labor force to work," said Jason Szumlanski, Fafco Solar's Project Manager. "The successful completion of this project is a distinctive achievement for Fafco Solar that will create long lasting savings in electricity costs for the facility."
The solar panels are "grid interactive", which means that they are capable of selling excess electricity back to the electric grid, thus saving energy and lowering costs. The panels and inverters also feature real-time and time-lapse energy monitoring. This is the same type of solar electric technology that is used in residential applications, but has been scaled for an industrial facility. In addition, an LCD monitor will be installed in the lobby of the Safety Building, allowing visitors to view the performance of the solar panels.
A commissioning ceremony for the Lee County Public Safety Building was held on January 6th, and attended by Lee County representatives Dan Morrissey, Jason Szumlanski, Dominick Zito, and Marco Dano.
