High Brightness LED Worldwide Consumption Forecast to Reach $46.05 billion in 2020, According to new ElectroniCast Study

Global Information Inc. would like to present a new market research report, "High Brightness LED Global Market Review and Forecast (2010-2020)" by ElectroniCast.

2011-02-02
FARMINGTON, CT, February 02, 2011 (Press-News.org) A new study from ElectroniCast anticipates that global consumption of high brightness LEDs (HB-LEDs) will reach a value of $46.05 billion in 2020. In 2010, the global consumption of packaged HB-LEDs stood at $10.09 billion.

Timing is everything in this market. According to Stephen Montgomery, Director of LED market research at ElectroniCast, "during the 2010-2020 timeframe covered in the ElectronicCast study report, decreasing average selling prices (ASPs) are forecast to cause challenging growth patterns in consumption value in some application segments; therefore competitors need to choose the right 'windows of opportunity' to climb through." Montgomery continued by remarking on the fact that since the report is looking as far as 10-years from now, "many of the future products for the 2020 marketplace are not even at the idea-stage yet. It is important to note that [ElectronicCast] forecast lighting demand growth, which will drive demand for increased capability/capacity HB-LEDs."

Major findings:
In terms of consumption value, use of HB-LEDs in the vehicle category is forecast to multiply by a factor of 7 times before eventually slipping in value; declining average prices will be offset rising quantity growth in a few particular LED color segments.

Use of HB-LEDs in stationary (non-vehicle) signals is projected to increase to an average growth rate of 25.8% between 2010 and 2015.

Explosive growth is anticipated for HB-LEDs in the SSL-General Lighting products segment during the forecast period.

HB-LEDs for signage and professional display applications is expected to yield an impressive growth rate to reach $6 billion in 2020.

The mobile and portable device segment is relatively mature, but it should remain a strong segment for HB-LEDs albeit OLEDs will continue to creep into its market share.

Be on the lookout for emerging stars in the portable device category as industry analysts forecast impressive growth for white high brightness LEDs (WLEDS).
