Annual Scholarship for Warren County Students: $10,000 to be Awarded to Warren County Seniors by Rittgers & Rittgers, Attorneys at Law
2011-02-04
February 04, 2011 (Press-News.org) The local law firm of Rittgers & Rittgers is giving back to the Warren County community in a generous way. Through an annual high school essay contest, Rittgers & Rittgers will award four scholarships totaling $10,000 to deserving high school seniors in Warren County Ohio. Between now and April 1, students can go to http://www.rittgersinjurylaw.com/Resources/Scholarships.shtml to apply.

Partner Charles H. Rittgers said, "My wife and I created this scholarship to help promising local high school students. We wanted to create something to give back to the community."

Recipients of the Rittgers & Rittgers Annual Scholarship will be chosen based on their ability to demonstrate an understanding of, and a commitment to, the principles of the United States Constitution, including freedom, progress and justice.

The 2011 question:
Our Founding Fathers believed that the jury system is the heart and soul of liberty. John Adams said, "Representative government and trial by jury are the heart and lungs of liberty. Without them, we have no other fortification against being ridden like horses, policed like sheep, worked like cattle, and fed and clothed like swine and hounds." John Adams, 1774. Thomas Jefferson said, "I consider trial by jury as the only anchor ever yet imagined by man, by which a government can be held to the principles of its constitution."

The Seventh Amendment, which guarantees the right to trial by jury, has recently been under attack by politicians and special interest groups who do not want citizens to serve as jurors to determine the outcome of disputes. Please discuss why the jury system is or is not essential to a democratic society.

Rittgers & Rittgers is a family owned law firm which serves southwest Ohio through its offices in Lebanon, West Chester and Cincinnati. Rittgers & Rittgers consistently earns the highest professional and ethical rating from the nation's leading attorney rating service.
