Spray Finishing Store: Spray Finishing of Extruded Sheets and Boards

Sheets are commonly coated in-line by employing laminating dies in order to provide certain properties to the surface of the sheet. A cost-effective alternative is the coating and finishing by means of either automatic or manual spray guns.

The SprayFinishingStore.com website offers such systems, which typically consists of a pressure tank (pressure pot) which contains the liquid to be coated. The fluid is then transferred via hoses directly to the spray gun. Another system, usually employed when using high amount of coating material in a continuous process, uses air-operated diaphragm pumps (preferably made of groudable acetal to avoid any possible hazardous situation).

For this spray coating application, the manufacturers offer a wide range of different spray guns. Here is an overview about the different systems:

The spray finishing specialist Binks offers its MACH 1, which is a full size high volume low pressure (HVLP) air spray gun. Made of a lightweight drop-forged aluminum body and stainless steel fluid passages, this spray gun is designed to stand up under hard, continuous use. The MACH1 probably has the widest range of fluid nozzles (0.5mm to 2.8mm) and around 15 different air caps including for very heavy fluids and also feathering (for applications requiring more gradual fluid valve opening for metering control of fluid flow with trigger).

The company Graco-Sharpe offers its RAZOR HVLP Pressure Feed range which provides superior atomization for Class A finishes. A completely new air cap and nozzle design optimize spray performance while fewer parts mean less maintenance. The Razor Pressure Gun has the same features as the Sharpe gravity feed Razor Guns and comes in the nozzles sizes of 1.0mm (gun part number: 24A525), 1.2mm (24A526) and 1.4mm (24A527).

Japanese manufacturer ANEST IWATA offers its general purpose spray guns from the W-series (especially W-200, W-300 and W-400 series) for this application. If it comes to water borne coatings or high-solid paints, the company recommends its LPH-200-122P (previous models LPH-90-121, LPH-90-122), LPH-300 (nozzle sizes from 1.2/1.4/1.6mm) and LPH-400 (nozzles 1.4/1.6mm). The guns are suitable for base coat, top coat and clear coat.

The choice of spray gun and system depends very much on the sheet/board and the used fluid. More information about the different spray finishing systems can be found at http://sprayfinishingstore.com

Spray Finishing Store supplies and services a wide range of spray coating equipment, incl. spray guns and accessories like pressure tanks and agitators.
