PHUKET, THAILAND, February 09, 2011 (Press-News.org) Chakri Day is held on 6th April 2011 and celebrates the nine kings of the era with the current King Bhumibol Adulyadej residing over a ceremony in Bangkok at the royal chapel. The king also pays respects to the past kings at the Memorial Bridge by laying a wreath under the statue of King Rama I.
Visitors staying at Mae Hong Son hotels can see ceremonies taking place at temples and monuments where flowers are laid and offerings given to the kings. One of the most prominent kings of the dynasty, King Rama V, is especially revered by the people for his service to the country and people will often see donations being laid at his shrine.
The origins of the day date back to the time of King Ramathibodi or King Rama I who was previously known as Chakri and who ruled between 1782 and 1809. He played a significant part in defeating the invading Burmese armies and moved the capital of Thailand from Ayutthaya to present day Bangkok.
Lek Boonlert, marketing head at DirectRooms.com, commented: "The kings of Thailand are of significant importance to the people and Chakri day is a time where many ceremonies are held. Places like Mae Hong Son can become busy and visitors are therefore advised to book accommodation early."
