ATLANTA, GA, February 09, 2011 (Press-News.org) Curtis Key and his Key Motorsports team will again be fielding the #40 Chevrolet, now with the new Impala, in the 2011 NASCAR Nationwide Series season. For this coming season Curtis has gone back to the well with a driver that he is very familiar with, and knows can show the true ability of his team and the equipment they are putting on track in Wausau, Wisconsin native Scott Wimmer. In limited action in 2010 Wimmer led every race in which he competed, finishing with three Top-10's in just five races.
"I'd really like to thank Curtis for putting his trust in me to run with is team this season" Wimmer continues; "I've spent a lot of time at the shop, and really like the team he's put together, and think we'll have a strong season with these new cars, Daytona can't get here soon enough!"
Key Motorsports capped off a very consistent 2010 season by adding 20 Top-20 finishes, almost half of those Top-15's and multiple Top-10's to their credit. The team finished 21st in points the past two seasons and is determined to get over that hump into the Top-20 in Owners Points. The team will roll out their fleet of new cars, new engines and with their new goals in place as Daytona and the season quickly approaches on February 19th, 2011.
Scott Wimmer originally hails from Wausau, Wisconsin. He carved his mark on the short tracks in the Midwest throughout the 1990's and became recognized as the dominant force in racing throughout the Midwest. Wimmer captured the eye of top NASCAR owners after he entered the American Speed Association (ASA) and claimed victories in the first two races he competed in. Wimmer tallied two Top-5 and eight Top-10 finishes in his rookie year of the Busch Series that put him 11th in the championship standings. In the 2007 season, Wimmer (along with teammate Jeff Burton) won the NASCAR Busch Series season owner points championship for Richard Childress Racing. The duo finished 3rd in the NASCAR Nationwide Series standings in 2008, while Wimmer posted his 6th career NASCAR win. In 2009, Wimmer ran 29 races for Curtis Key Sr. and Key Motorsports with a season best finish of 7th at Memphis. He resides in North Carolina with his wife, Jody and son, Hayden.
For the last 22 years, Curtis Key has established himself in the business community in the Hampton Roads area of Virginia with the establishment of the hugely successful Curtis Key Plumbing Contractors, Inc. based in Chesapeake. Key Motorsports was formed after Curtis Key purchased the assets from Tommy Ellis in 1993 and debuted at the Miller 500 that same year with the #05 Chevrolet.
