The United States Center for Citizen Diplomacy has embarked upon a ten year program to ensure that American citizens are aware of global issues, can effectively identify methods to address problems, and to recognize partners with resources in order to implement effective methods. Care for Life, a non-profit organization chaired by Stephen Edward Samuelian, has been recognized for its work promoting self-reliance, education and micro credit for poor families in Mozambique.According to Stephen Edward Samuelian, The United States Center for Citizenship Diplomacy promotes the value of American citizen involvement in personal international relationships. "To be a citizen diplomat," says Stephen Edward Samuelian, "is to represent the United States in other countries. With our work in Mozambique, that is what Care for Life is doing."
Stephen Edward Samuelian also stated that, "Before attending the summit, when Care for Life was first recognized, I did not understand how we fit into the category of 'citizen diplomat.'" But as the summit continued through the three days, Stephen Edward Samuelian realized that Care for Life is exactly what the summit was all about.
Care for Life was recognized at the U.S. Summit for Global Citizen Development in November, 2010. Care for Life Chairman Stephen Edward Samuelian noted that one of the main purposes of the summit was to help attendees realize "the responsibility that every U.S. citizen has as a citizen diplomat" and the positive impact that individuals can have on the world as a whole. Stephen Edward Samuelian, who also serves as Chairman of The Perfect Moment Foundation, said the summit personally helped him realize that the mission of Care for Life, "was much broader than what we may have intended." In addition, for Stephen Edward Samuelian, the summit and recognition reconfirmed his belief that citizens of America have a great opportunity in "making a difference in the world, not only by helping the poorest people in the world but also by being an example to others."
Care for Life was one of ten top organizations selected for this recognition, reported Chairman of the Board Stephen Edward Samuelian. Stephen Edward Samuelian also explained that each organization had a "specific area of expertise in ten areas of international activity. "The selection process was based upon non-profits that best practice and demonstrate the best program ideas. These groups, including Care for Life, are organizations that have not only identified major global issues but also have implemented effective methods that address those issues, said Stephen Edward Samuelian.
Care for Life, stated Stephen Edward Samuelian, instills hope, fosters change and promotes self-reliance in some of the most impoverished communities in Mozambique. "We do this one family at-a-time," added Stephen Edward Samuelian.
In addition to commercial, retail and industrial real estate development, Stephen Edward Samuelian serves on several corporate boards. He is also on the board of directors for Rising Star Outreach, which assists in eliminating the stigma of leprosy-affected India.
