Boozehound Author and WaPo Reporter Competes in Sommelier Smackdown

The Wine School welcomes Boozehound author and Washington Post journalist, Jason Smith, to its signature wine and food pairing event, the Sommelier Smackdown.

2010-09-07
PHILADEPHIA, PA, September 07, 2010 (Press-News.org) The Wine School of Philadelphia is excited to welcome Jason Wilson to the Sommelier Smackdown, held on Wednesday, September 28th.

Jason Wilson writes about drinks for the Washington Post food section. His column won the award for Best Newspaper Food Column from the Association of Food Journalists in 2008, and he is nominated for the same award this year. Wilson founded the online arts and culture journal, TheSmartSet.com, and acts as series editor of The Best American Travel Writing, in addition to teaching at Drexel University. This year, he served as a fellow at The Symposium for Professional Wine Writers in Napa. Most importantly, though, the man has a pizza, a dessert, and a breakfast sandwich named after him. Really.

His attendance at the Smackdown comes just days after his soon-to-be-bestseller Boozehound: On the Trail of the Rare, the Obscure, and the Overrated in Spirits hits the bookshelves across the country.

The infamous Collin Flatt will be representing the Wine School in this Smackdown. Along with serving as a senior Sommelier-Instructor at the Wine School, Collin is a journalist for NBC. His beat for the peacock network covers all things foodie and boozy in Philly. Collin does not have a book coming out, but he would like to. Someday.

Created by Keith Wallace, the Sommelier Smackdown has become a national sensation, gaining the attention of both Wine Spectator and Wine & Spirits magazines. The event pits two major personalities in the food and wine world against each other in a wine-soaked tussle of food and wine pairing acumen. The contestant who creates the best pairing—as determined by the audience—takes home the title.

The Wine School of Philadelphia is located at 2006 Fairmount Avenue in Philadelphia. To set up a time to speak to the Director, Keith Wallace, please contact the School's press office at 1-800-817-7351 x30, or email press@vinology.com.

The Wine School is dedicated to educating wine novices and professionals alike. Their philosophy is simple: the information needed to appreciate wine should be available to everyone, and they accomplish this by providing dynamic, enjoyable learning experiences based on a sensory and an academic understanding of wine.

Santa Barbara psychotherapist Anny Eastwood brings a unique perspective on the significance of anxiety and depression in our lives and has recently added this as a specialization in her private practice. She poses provocative questions like, what if depression is a soul call to a meaningful life? What if stress, anxiety, and panic attacks are our body's way of signaling us to slow down and pay closer attention to our experience?
