An individual's set of results is based on recommendations from their chosen "guides", which may include friends, co-workers, industry experts, or others whose opinions they trust.
With the proliferation of websites on the Internet it has become increasingly difficult to find those sites that are recommended by people you trust. Sherpia plans to change that paradigm by allowing users to quickly find relevant sites in areas such as online shopping, travel, daily deals, or dozens of other interest-based activities they want to do. "The major search engines are excellent for finding discrete bits of information, but if you looking for a site that has been personally recommended by someone you know and trust there is no easy way to do that online," said Kevin Whelan, Founder of Sherpia, Inc. "Our plan is for Sherpia to change that and expose our users to fantastic sites that they either don't know about or aren't sure whether they can trust."
People will now have the ability to search, discover, and share their experiences with others to help guide them in the future. Users can register either directly through the site or through Facebook Connect. In addition, a set of Industry Guides also help users improve their web experience and find new sites that are relevant to their search. The Industry Guides are a select set of experts that specializes in a wide range of topics and has met Sherpia's criteria for inclusion.
