PHILADELPHIA, PA, March 04, 2011 (Press-News.org) My Pet's Brace today entered the pet industry's exciting new field of animal healthcare: veterinary orthotics and prosthetics.
Working with patient families and their team of veterinarians, specialists and rehabilitation professionals, My Pet's Brace provides innovatively designed and fabricated leg braces, prosthetics and other orthopedic devices customized to the individual pet's needs. The care and craftsmanship invested in every orthosis and prosthesis result in better quality of life by promoting higher levels of activity and function and improving overall mobility.
With 25 years in human healthcare providing orthotics and prosthetics, My Pet's Brace founders Jim Alaimo, CPO, and Mark Hardin saw a need in the pet industry for customized orthopedic devices for pets.
"We provide veterinarians and animal rehab professionals with new options to help pets regain mobility and function," says Alaimo, co-founder of My Pet's Brace. "We do this by offering custom orthopedic solutions for pre- and post-surgical control, trauma, disease and patients that are not candidates for surgery. Leg braces for pets, especially when combined with physical therapy, can also be a lower-cost option for pet owners with funding concerns."
"Leg braces and prosthetics for pets are some of the newest additions to the trend of increasingly sophisticated and diversified clinical solutions in veterinary medicine," says Hardin, co-founder of My Pet's Brace. "This is largely fueled by pet families demanding the same clinical options for their furry family members that are available for the human ones."
Chopper, a two-year old, red-nosed Pit Bull, had a rough start in life. "After being found on the streets by the Furry Friends Rescue near Lititz, PA, Chopper was brought to our facility for an evaluation," says Dr. Chris M. Runnels, DVM, DACVS. "We have since treated him for two dislocated hips, two patella luxations, spinal problems, paralysis and some nerve damage that causes him to drag his left rear paw."
To help Chopper have a higher quality of life, Dr. Runnels contacted My Pet's Brace and had them design and build a leg brace that allows him to walk comfortably and protects his rear paw from abrasions. "After being fitted, Chopper briefly checked out his new brace and then bounded down the hall at the My Pet's Brace patient-care facility, happy to be on the move again," added Dr. Runnels.
My Pet's Brace leg braces, prostheses and other orthopedic devices for animals may be used in a variety of applications including pre-surgically for support and control; post-surgically as an adjunct to surgical intervention to promote faster healing, especially for very active pets; and for non-surgical candidates. Veterinarians also use My Pet's Brace leg braces and other orthopedic devices as a clinical solution for trauma, congenital conditions and disease-related deficiencies.
