What are shipping containers made from? The International Standard (ISO) shipping containers modified by DropBox Inc are made out of 16 guage corten steel with heavy duty plywood flooring.
Are the containers DropBox Inc. modifies new or used? DropBox Inc. modifies all of it's products from new ISO shipping containers. "New" however is a relative term, in that all "New" shipping containers are actually what we in the shipping container industry refer to as one-trippers. In other words the containers have made one trip from the place where they are manufactured (typically China) to the U.S. Once the goods in the container are unloaded the unit is delivered to our manufacturing facility in Worthington, KY where it is modified into any number of DropBox Inc. Products.
How are our shipping container modifications delivered? DropBox Inc. can deliver it's products to your location a couple of different ways. The first is via a flatbed truck which would require a crane or fork lift at your site to off load the unit. If a crane or fork lift are not available at your site we can also deliver on a "roll off" trailer that can tilt to off load the unit.
What can be built from shipping containers? Practically anything can be built out of ISO shipping containers. At DropBox Inc we have built portable running water restrooms, shower facilities, decontamination showers, modular laundry facilities, modular offices and many many others. Shipping containers are a sturdy building block with a large number of uses. ISO shipping Containers are being used around the world to manufacture temporary living facilities, low cost housing, hotels, and art museums.
How long does it take to get my modification once I've ordered one? Most units manufactured by DropBox Inc. can be delivered within 4-6 weeks from the date we recieve a purchase order. Some larger products can take longer depending on the floor plan/size of the build, but more often than not your shipping container modification can be on site in no more than 6 weeks.
What size do ISO shipping containers come in? Standard ISO shipping containers are 8 feet wide, 8 and a half feet tall, and either 40 feet or 20 feet long. 45 foot and 53 foot Shipping containers can also be found in limited supplies. For those needing more head room "high cube" shipping containers can also be purchased. They come in the standard 20 and 40 foot lengths but are 9 and half feet tall as opposed to 8 and a half feet.
