CARY, NC, March 11, 2011 (Press-News.org) The family-friendly event takes place on the newly renovated Downtown Durham Streetscape and registration is at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park located at 309 Blackwell Street in Durham. Best Friend Pet Adoption (BFPA) is a no-kill animal rescue organization that relies solely on volunteers and foster families for the care of cats and dogs. Through participation in this event, BFPA hopes to raise $5,000 to help in this effort. It is free to register for the event as a walker and only $25 for runners. Registration begins at 7AM and the run begins at 8:30AM, immediately followed by walkers. Individuals are encouraged to register through the BFPA event website and create their own fundraising page. Those unable to register for the event, but who still want to help by making a donation, can contribute at the same website.
Donations and fundraisers provide the financial support necessary for BFPA to provide medical treatment, including Frontline and Heartguard, as well as food to the animals in their rescue organization. "Without the generosity of the community and events like the Great Human Race, we wouldn't be able to help the animals in our care find their forever homes. Even the smallest of donations can help Best Friends," said Gary Albertson, Director of BFPA Fundraising.
This is not a BFPA-only event; no dogs are allowed to walk or run with their human companions. The Great Human Race is presented by the Volunteer Center of Durham and will support several Triangle-area non-profit organizations.
