Laura Doud, Long Beach City Auditor, to be inaugural speaker on March 17 at Hotel Maya

2011-03-11
LONG BEACH, CA, March 11, 2011 (Press-News.org) The Long Beach Bar Association is launching an open forum series to connect the community with local government officials. The inaugural forum will take place on Thursday, March 17 at Hotel Maya.

"We hope to make the law and local government more accessible to our friends and neighbors," said David R. Haberbush, Esq., president of the Long Beach Bar Association. "Quite simply, knowledge is power. We at the Long Beach Bar Association feel that in this economy, now more than ever, it's important that our community be empowered so we can all make educated decisions for our future."

To launch the series, Long Beach City Auditor Laura Doud will demystify the role and function of her Office and take questions from the community.

"As the City Auditor, my job is all about accountability to the community - the taxpayers- and transparency in reporting to ensure that their money is being allocated appropriately and effectively," said Laura Doud. "In that spirit, I look forward to kicking off the Long Beach Bar Association's open forum series and shedding some light on my unique role in city government."

Hotel Maya is located at 700 Queensway Drive. A community mixer, including dinner, will begin at 6:00 p.m. and the program will begin at 7:00 p.m.
