ST. LOUIS, MO, March 16, 2011 (Press-News.org) Forty-six years after Goleta Valley Cottage Hospital (GVCH) was initially built in Goleta, CA, crews from HBE Corporation began pouring the foundation for a 148,000-square-foot replacement hospital right next door. Construction of the new $103 million hospital is expected to be completed in October 2013 and will meet the seismic standards required by the state by 2013.
Experienced hospital design-build firm HBE Corporation is providing architecture, engineering services, construction and site work on the project. With soil-quality posing some challenges on the project, work on the foundation is expected to continue for the next two months.
"The new Goleta Valley Cottage Hospital is going to be a beautiful facility, but more importantly, it was designed and will be built to meet the needs of the community," said Diane Wisby, the hospital's vice president. "Watching almost 100 trucks deliver concrete and seeing the basement of the new hospital begin to take shape was very exciting for everyone. We are thrilled to be building this state-of-the-art hospital for our community. When the project is completed in late 2013, we will have an extraordinary facility to support and care for our neighbors."
The new facility will have 20 emergency room beds, the number of surgical suites will increase from four to six, and it will have 44 private medical/surgical rooms, eight intensive care rooms, a dedicated endoscopy suite and four hyperbaric oxygen chambers. Another feature of the hospital will be what's termed as "key adjacencies" or strategic placement of certain types of rooms near services designed to eliminate duplication of testing facilities and unnecessary movement of patients from their rooms.
