Inaugural Socionomics Summit Explores Why Groups Behave As They Do

"New Horizons in the Study of Social Mood"

GAINESVILLE, GA, March 19, 2011 (Press-News.org) The Socionomics Summit will feature a dozen speakers including five scientists whose work has captured the attention of the media. The summit will be held on April 16, 2011 at the Georgia Tech Hotel and Conference Center in Atlanta, Georgia.

At the day-long summit presenters will speak about the latest developments in socionomic theory, research and application. Speakers include "Twitter mood predicts the stock market" authors Johan Bollen and Huina Mao; best-selling Mood Matters author John Casti; hedge fund manager Scott Reamer; Minyanville sage Kevin Depew; the Institute's Research Fellow at the University of Cambridge Matt Lampert; plus six other speakers who will present their latest research. Socionomics Institute founder, Robert R. Prechter, Jr., will open and close the summit.

Socionomics is the study of how society's changes in mood motivate social actions in many realms, including the economy, political preferences, financial markets, actions of peace and war, and the fads and fashions of popular culture. Robert Prechter began formulating socionomic theory in 1976. He introduced the idea to the public in an article in Barron's in 1985 and wrote his first book on the subject - The Wave Principle of Human Social Behavior - in 1999.
