WICHITA, KS, March 20, 2011 (Press-News.org) After three days of intense competition, Kerry Kuhn ( http://www.kerrykuhn.com ) won 'Equifest of Kansas' first 'Colt Starting competition. The "Colt Starting Competition" ran the full weekend with final performance and judging at 2:00 pm on Sunday in the main arena at the Kansas Coliseum. It featured Scott Daily, Kerry Kuhn and Lee Hart.
Kerry drew the three year old colt and it looked as though he had his hands full. Trying to build some respect and trust in his horse, he chose to leave the round pen early and move to the big arena. This made things very interesting at first, but proved to be a good move. Kerry's colt began to relax and show some remarkable changes. After only 2.5 hours of work, Kerry rode the colt bridleless during the "Freestyle portion" of the Obstacle Course, showing the trust that had been built between him and his colt.
Kuhn calls his approach to working with horses 'Practical Horsemanship'. He says, "by creating a deeper connection with your horses it not only improves your riding skills but radiates out into your everyday life and beyond. Horsemanship is all about good leadership, patience, and learning to be positive no matter what the situation,"
