Under the laws concerning negligence a sentence can result in large fines for both the company and the directors and up to 2 year custodial sentences. The large fines are likely to be greater than ÂGBP500k. Furthermore, it is now possible for the courts to make 'publicity orders', whereby the company or organization is forced to reveal the offending breach of conduct, which could be devastating for company image.
