MCKPR Presents a California Campaign to Empower African American Women to BeWell

New campaign engages women of childbearing age with grassroots community outreach and social media to inspire good health messages.

2011-03-20
NEWARK, NJ, March 20, 2011 (Press-News.org) Black women in California are more likely to experience poor birth outcomes and are four times more likely to die from a pregnancy-related cause than any other ethnicity. The effects of this alarming health disparity not only affect Black women and children - it destroys Black communities. Many pregnancy-related complications can be avoided with greater access to information.

The Be Well Women campaign is sounding a clarion call to a new generation of Black women in California who put their health first. The campaign, which targets women between 18 and 29, challenges women to take charge of their health whether they are a mom or even if they are not planning to have a baby right away. What you do today can affect your child tomorrow.

Themes of The Campaign | Be Fit & Healthy. Be Connected. Be Inspired. Be Informed.

These messages will echo through posters, a website, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and SMS marketing. Street teams in LA and the Bay Area will also be giving away gift cards and churches will be engaged to logon to #BeWell for a chance to relax and rejuvenate.

To engage women on a journey to Be Well 24/7, the campaign will launch a Spa Sweepstakes, giving away 24 spa packages over 7 days - March 17 to 24 -- through Facebook and Twitter to those that 'like' and enter on the website.
