Physical Therapy for Preventative Care is On the Rise

Proper treatment for injuries involves movement science to prevent them from occurring again in the future.

2011-03-20
MALDEN, MA, March 20, 2011 (Press-News.org) With the advent of direct access (which means a person can visit a physical therapist directly to seek a personalized health evaluation) more and more people are using physical therapy for preventative care to help them stay healthy. Physical therapists can identify a problem in advance which often helps patients avoid expensive surgery that can cause additional health issues.

"Treatment of the body from preventative stages to the rehab stages is important for preventative care," says Dr. Kevin McGovern, founder of McGovern Physical Therapy Associates and Game 7 Sports Training TM. "A lot of people have movement dysfunction which has been left untreated for years, but they don't know about it and will eventually have an injury."

Some of the benefits of seeing a physical therapist for preventative care include:

* Prevention of injury - It is easier to prevent a problem than to cure it. Seeing a physical therapist can catch anything non-optimal and fix it before it becomes an injury.

* Maintaining good health - Just like it is easier to prevent a problem than to cure it, it is easier to maintain good health than to fix it. Seeing your physical therapist regularly can go a long way in staying healthy.

* Saving time and money - Dealing with minor issues costs less in money and time than dealing with major issues does, making seeing a physical therapist for preventative care a low cost solution to rising healthcare costs.

If you are experiencing any acute body pain, it is recommended to see a physical therapist to prevent it from becoming a chronic problem, which is harder to cure than an acute problem.

McGovern Physical Therapy Associates provides preventative care with direct access for individuals that want to restore their health or maintain a healthy lifestyle where the McGovern Movement Score (MMS) test is utilized to catch anything before it has a chance to become a problem. The MMS measures the basics of human movement and strength. The purpose of this exam is to ensure that every individual exercises at their level and virtually eliminates injury, providing an effective method for preventative care and maintaining overall optimum health by training in an innovative and scientific manner.
