MONTREAL, QC, March 25, 2011 (Press-News.org) Matrox Graphics Inc. today announced that Symbiotics has integrated Matrox TripleHead2Go Graphics eXpansion Modules (GXMs) as part of a unique pilot selection and assessment tool for the armed forces and civil aviation sector. The Matrox TripleHead2Go external multi-display solution allows Symbiotics to build a two-system platform that features a triple-monitor flight simulation test station for the prospective pilot, while a second triple-monitor workstation is reserved to evaluate the candidate across variety of performance criteria.
In developing a new pilot selection and assessment program, Symbiotics required a multi-monitor solution to convert two single-display systems to two triple-monitor workstations. After validating the Matrox TripleHead2Go, Symbiotics used the solution to run three displays—at resolutions of 1280 x 1024 per screen—in a highly immersive, flight simulation environment that would test candidates on their physical control, cognitive flexibility, and workload management. The expanded onscreen desktop also proved highly beneficial for the evaluation workstation as it provided evaluators with the appropriate workspace requirements to productively interact with the examiner interface, psychometric screen, and navigation. The new innovative human factors technology now allows Symbiotics to accurately—and confidently—match a qualified pilot to their client's needs.
"The benefits in using the TripleHead2Go are realized through a dynamic localization of monitors to suit our bespoke configuration," says Mike Norman, Human Factors Consultant, Symbiotics Ltd. "While aligning screens alongside one another creates a widescreen immersive display, the ability to split the content of the examiner desktop enables an examiner to work remotely from the candidate field of view."
