GLOUCESTERSHIRE, ENGLAND, March 25, 2011 (Press-News.org) Hereford has always been famous for the Hereford Cathedral (that dates back from 1079) and the Mappa Mundi, a medieval map that dates back to the 13th century. This pleasant county town of Herefordshire sits on the banks of the river Wye and is popular for a wide array of festival and events that place throughout the year.

Come July and natives get ready for 'The Ledbury Poetry Festival. For 10 days in July, Ledbury, Herefordshire is filled with the biggest names in poetry for readings, performances and events, aimed for people of all ages. The Hereford Summer Walking Festival that begins on the 18th and ends on the 26th is ideal for people to explore the cider orchards and the mountains, with more than 50 walks planned.

You could also visit Hereford in September for the Hereford Art Week that gives you access to artists' studios, workshops and special exhibitions. Meanwhile, The Hereford Photography Festival and Flavors of Hereford Food Festival both take place in October. The highly acclaimed Three Choir festival that features choirs from Hereford, Gloucester and Worcester takes place every third year. The festival that's all set to take place in August this year has been celebrated since the early 1700's and is believed to the oldest such festivals in England.

2011 also marks the 200 years of the first publication the Pomona Herefordiensis and to mark this year, 2011 is being celebrated as "Herefordshire's Year in the Orchard with a series of events and festivals planned throughout the year.'
