MALAGA, SPAIN, March 26, 2011 (Press-News.org) Steel tycoon Lakshmi Mittal has overtaken Mukesh Ambani to become the wealthiest Indian according to the annual Forbes list of World Billionaires for 2011 released this month. With a net worth of 31.1 billion US dollars it's little wonder that Mittal has the megayacht to match and his 80 metre masterpiece was spotted in Gibraltar's Ocean Village marina last week.
Megayacht Amevi, ranked 63rd in the 100 largest yachts in the world, cruised into Ocean Village en-route from Tarragona to the Caribbean island of Saint Martin for fuel, provisions and luxurious R&R. As a territory well-used to the ways of the wealthy, Ocean Village marina was the perfect choice super billionaire Lakshmi Mittal. The London resident is the second richest man in Europe, sixth in the world, and CEO of ArcelorMittal, the world's largest steelmaking company. In fact it is said that one in five cars on the planet is made up of the steel materials from his empire. Amevi's reported 300 million euro price tag would have been mere pocket money for Mittal.
First launched in 2006 and delivered to Mittal in 2007, Amevi comes from the Oceanco shipyard and provides superior accommodation for 12 guests attended to by a crew of 27 - that's quite some staff/customer ratio. A selection of her remarkable features include a helipad, cinema, gymnasium, heated swimming pool with exercise jet pump, massage room, hair salon and a pool table on hydraulic stabilizers so you can take aim on the black even while underway.
Boredom is banned on Amevi as the megayacht has a huge array of tenders and toys for water play. From catamarans to RIBs, Sea-Doos to Sea Bob underwater jet bikes, Hobie Cats to sailing dinghies, Amevi has every kind of boat covered as well as diving equipment, windsurf boards, wakeboards, kneeboards, water-skis and all those wonderful inflatable toys such as donuts and bananas that just love to get you wet.
And how much for this luxury? Well Amevi is chartered for 700,000 euros a week - so start stockpiling lottery tickets or befriend a millionaire and get onboard.
Prices for Premier Berths at Ocean Village's newly extended marina start from just GBP10 a day for vessels up to 39ft off season. Megayachts over 50 metres can berth for GBP4 a metre, that's just GBP320 a day in Amevi's case - a vast reduction off equivalent marinas in the south of France and Italian Riviera.
