SACRAMENTO, CA, March 26, 2011 (Press-News.org) Award-winning actor, producer, director and author, LeVar Burton, star of the acclaimed ABC television mini-series "Roots" (Kunta Kinte) and Star Trek: The Next Generation (Geordi La Forge), and host and producer of children's program Reading Rainbow, will be in town on April 16 to support a historic event, "The Run: Moving Natural Medicine Forward."
Mr. Burton will be here to support the efforts of life-long friend Dr. Dennis Godby, ND, who will be running 3,250 miles through 90 cities across the country. This is the second coast-to-coast run for Dr. Godby and this time he will be accompanied by sons Isaiah and Jeremiah, and nephew, Jonas Ely. The doctor's goal: To bring national grass roots attention to options in health care including naturopathic medicine. The 4-month Run begins in San Francisco on July 17 and ends in Bridgeport, CT on November 16 with stops along the way to educate and empower local communities about natural health care options.
Naturopathic Medicine is a unique health care system, based on six underlying principles:
• First Do No Harm: Utilize the most natural, least invasive and least toxic therapies.
• The Healing Power of Nature: Trust in the body's inherent wisdom to heal itself.
• Identify and Treat the Causes: Look beyond symptoms to the underlying cause.
• Doctor as Teacher: Educate patients in the steps to achieving and maintaining optimal health.
• Treat the Whole Person: View the body as an integrated whole in all physical and spiritual aspects.
• Prevention: Focus on overall health, wellness, and disease prevention
Dr. Godby asserts that these principles have changed the lives of many of his patients, and this positive transformation in his patient's lives is where he draws his passion and enthusiasm for The Run. He explains, "These powerful principles of naturopathic medicine have guided many patients to a new level of health that they never realized possible. I get empowered knowing that I am increasing the awareness of safe, natural and effective healthcare options."
Mr. Burton will be in Sacramento to celebrate the grand kickoff celebration for The Run by attending the local FUNraiser dinner on April 16th from 5:00-11:00 pm at the Grand Capitol Ballroom. The event includes a delicious dinner, live music by Love Train, dancing, a silent auction, and several national speakers, including renowned Naturopathic Doctor, Dicken Weatherby, and four-time cancer survivor, "Natural Cancer Girl" Diane Paradise.
