LONG BEACH, CA, March 28, 2011 (Press-News.org) Writers, Brothers and California natives Marcus and MG Hardie are putting their stamp on the literary world, but the brothers are far more than words and paragraphs. Whether they are providing fresh perspective through their writing or unique and enlightening commentary in their appearances, it is their faith and belief in each other that drives them. Locally they have demonstrated through volunteering at Boys and Girls Clubs, Retirement Homes, Participating in fund-raisers for the homeless or offering real solutions to city officials, that together we can all do a little more. On the national level the brothers can be found anywhere from television to blogs to radio segments to university panels on Hip Hop, Media and Race.
MG Hardie's debut book "EveryDay Life" put Tupac and Shakespeare together, which was no small task. Reviewers summed up the book in a single word "Brilliance". His latest book "It Ain't Just the Size" is even more ambitious. Hardie built his subject matter on James Joyce's 'A Portrait of the Artist of a Young Man' and the love story on 'Cinderella'. Hardie then filled the book with Humor, Hip Hop, Men and Women's Issues, Philosophy, Sexuality, Drama and a much care and thought. Only, Hardie didn't stop there, he added Jack Kerouac, Zadie Smith, Malcolm X, Margaret Atwood, Ralph Ellison, Langston Hughes, John Steinbeck, Lorraine Hansberry and juxtaposed them with Rakim, Nas, Taalam Acey, Jay Z, Kanye West, Common, KRS-1, and the Black Eye Peas, a task that seems impossible. It is not only possible, but "It Ain't Just the Size" is surprisingly easy to read and one of the few books that actually does have it all. http://www.bevsmithtalks.com/
"Black & Bulletproof" by Marcus Hardie is a raw, intensely personal and inspiring look at the story of a young American who travels from the Westside to the Western wall and back again. It is a mesmerizing look at a heroic fighter trapped in a cycle of violence who manages to transcends cultural boundaries. With the unique perspective of being an African-American Jew fighting in Israel, Marcus Hardie captures the imagination with a story of race, violence, courage and faith. The Hardie Boys books have gathered some amazing reviews and serve to show how different, yet similar the brothers are. Together the lively Hardie's cover subject matter from local issues to international matters. The brothers will appear on The Bev Smith show, March 28th at 6:00 pm pst. Bev Smith is a well noted interviewer and political commentator who has never been afraid to tackle tough issues, ask the right questions or promote the positive. On April 2nd, the Hardie Boys will be in Long Beach from 11-4pm, for the Black Authors Festival at the Public Library for the Black Authors Festival.
