LONDON, ENGLAND, September 10, 2010 (Press-News.org) The TVChoice Awards 2010, in association with Daz, celebrated the best of TV, honouring the shows that have tickled the tastebuds of the British viewing public in the last twelve months.
Hosted by quick-witted comedy star, Alexander Armstrong, awards were tonight handed out to the cream of TV talent including a triple whammy for Emmerdale. The Yorkshire based soap beat off strong competition from its Mancunian and London based rivals to win gongs for Best Soap Actor for Danny Miller (who plays mechanic Aaron Livesy), Best Soap Newcomer for Adam Thomas (who plays the Dales' new boy Adam Barton) and Best Soap Storyline for the hard-hitting and emotional look at Aaron's sexual confusion and subsequent self-loathing.
However it was EastEnders that triumphed in the Best Soap Actress category, with the prize going to the Square's Lacey Turner for her stunning portrayal of teen mum, Stacey Branning. And the Walford crew also celebrated as EastEnders was given the top honour, our Best Soap award, sponsored by Daz.
Coronation Street didn't leave empty handed though as TV Choice honoured the soap with a special award to mark its amazing 50 years on TV - a fitting start to the celebrations as the show gears up for that landmark in December.
Doctor Who came up trumps once again as it was voted Best Family Drama and The Doctor's feisty red headed companion, Karen Gillan, was there to pick up the award. Eighties time trip drama, Ashes to Ashes scooped the Best Drama Award again this year with Philip Glenister, better known as cop legend DCI Gene Hunt, and his team picking up the gong, whilst Best New Drama went to hit US musical comedy, Glee.
The trophy for Best Actress went yet again to Waterloo Road favourite Denise Welsh while Skins' Jack O'Connell pulled off a coup by grabbing the Best Actor award, seeing off the likes of John Barrowman, Philip Glenister and Matt Smith.
Gordon Ramsay won the inaugural Best Food Show gong whilst fellow chef, Gino D'Acampo accepted Best Reality Show with Kim Woodburn on behalf of I'm A Celebrity - Get Me Out of Here. But Simon Cowell was not disappointed as his entertainment juggernaut, Britain's Got Talent, won Best Talent Show. Extreme entertainment was also honoured this year as the Best Gameshow award was accepted by Amanda Byram for Total Wipeout.
The TV Choice readers named warm-hearted comedy, Gavin and Stacey Best Comedy Show and TV funnyman Alan Carr picked up the best Entertainment Show award for his hilarious chat show, Alan Carr: Chatty Man.
A hugely popular annual event, The TVChoice Awards is this year in association with Daz. Publishers of TVChoice, H Bauer, were delighted that for the first time, funds will go to Bauer Radio's own charity Cash For Kids, which helps youngsters in need across the nation.
